More Books to Read If You Like Anything After the Series

Sisters Grimm Series by Michael Buckley
Two orphaned sisters are sent to live with their grandmother (who they don’t even know exists) in a strange little town called Ferryport Landing. When they arrive, they soon learn that they are descendants of the Brothers Grimm and the book of fairy tales written by the brothers? Actually history. And when one fairy tale mystery after another emerges in their town, it’s up to the sisters to solve the mystery. This series is really fun, with all the characters from every fairy tale you know appearing. The question is, who can they trust and who is trying to bring them down?

Ella is Fascinated by Gail Levine
This smart, funny, and sweet retelling of Cinderella might be one of my top five favorite books of all time! Ella was cursed immediately after birth to obey any command given to her and there seemed to be no way for her to break the curse herself. That is, he must track down the elusive fairy and put a curse on her and convince her to remove the curse.

The Hamster’s Daughter: The Invincible Harriet by Ursula Vernon
This fractured fairy tale series was one of Ella’s favorites and she read and re-read it, reading aloud her favorite lines to me and . . . I have to admit, they are really funny and laugh out loud funny. Don’t be fooled by the title – it’s suitable for boys and girls who love adventure and humor.

The Frog Princess by ED Baker
It may not be the full Disney version, but it’s a classic! Princess Emma suddenly finds herself a frog after kissing a frog prince. They both set out to find a way to become human again.

Land of Stories by Chris Colfer
Alex and Conner, twin brothers, open a beloved storybook only to find themselves sucked into it. In a mysterious land where magic runs rampant, they interact with fairy tale characters they’ve heard about all their lives. The real question is. . . can they go home? This series is a huge hit in my house!

Once Upon a Fairy Tale series by Anna Staniszewski, illustrated by Macky Pamintuan
Fractured fairy tales are always a hit in our house and it’s fun to see our girls get involved in them. Star’s first grade teacher introduced him to this series and he happily picked up another series at the public library. There are black and white illustrations on every page and are perfect for readers who love fairy tales.

Fairy Tale Reform School Series by Jen Calonita
My oldest daughter has never met a crack fairy tale she didn’t like, so I knew immediately that this series about Fairy Tale Reform School, where fairy tale villains are “reformed,” would be a hit. And it’s true. This one is great for tweens and teens!

Swan Girl by Shannon Hale
For those who love fairy tales and retellings of fairy tales, the Books of Bayern series is a winner. It follows four strong young heroines in a magical land as they fight to save the kingdom and the people they love from dark forces. swan girl, The first book in this series was one of the first books I ever wrote on Everyday Reading and is still one of my all-time favorites. The plot is of course pretty basic fairy tale material, but Hale makes it into something truly beautiful. (Full review here)
