7 places to get audio to make your own Yoto cards!

One of the biggest concerns parents have when they are considering a Yoto Player for their child is that they will spend a lot of money on Yoto cards.

And you definitely can!

But the good news is that there are lots of ways to get cheap or free audio to put on Yoto Create Your Own cards!

Here are seven of my favorites!

7 Great Places to Get Audio to Make Your Own Yoto Cards

Yoto App. The Yoto app is free – whether you have a Yoto player or not – and they’re constantly adding new things that you can easily link to your Create Your Own Yoto cards. Check back often and don’t miss their annual Yoto arrival with new free audio every day in December!
Libro.fm. If you’re new to Libro.fm, it’s very similar to Audible, only your monthly membership supports the independent bookstore of your choice, not Amazon. I have a whole post about Libro.fm here, but the important thing to know is that your audio files are yours forever and are very easy to access, no jailbreak required. And if you’re wondering how to get those Libro.fm files on a Yoto card, I have a complete post here. They have deals all the time and you can buy audiobooks for just a few dollars to put on your own card!
Yoto Room. I feel this is an underrated source for getting free audio to fill out your Yoto Make Your Own cards! Yoto Space is a community site for Yoto and there are lots of great options for free audio. Take 10 minutes to look around the website and see what your kids are interested in! Plus because it’s official from Yoto, it syncs very easily with the Yoto app and Yoto Make Your Own cards.
library. This is a great choice for FREE audiobooks! Librivox is a website that offers free audiobooks in the public domain (meaning 70 years old or older) that are read by volunteers. Of course, some readers will be better than others, but you can find some great content here! This link takes you directly to the kids section where you can browse or search for specific titles.
free. Do you know Freegal? This is a music service that many libraries make available to their customers (you can check here if your library participates) and you can listen to music through the service for free – if you don’t want to pay for Spotify or Amazon Music, it’s a great alternative, although it doesn’t cover every song on the planet. And the best part is that your library card gives you access to a certain number of free downloads a week (the number of downloads varies based on your library settings. My library allows me to download 3 songs a week). Once you download the songs, they are yours forever to use as you see fit (for personal, non-commercial use). Rip your own CDs into mp3 files. I know CDs seem to be out of date, but they are a great resource for Making Your Own Yoto Cards! So grab all your favorite old CDs and copy them onto Yoto cards so your kids can listen to them now! Plus, if you like to save money, CDs are something you should look into!
Record yourself or a family member. I really like this option. There’s nothing like a loved one reading to you, especially if you don’t live close by. Yoto has some excellent instructions here on how to record your own audio in the Yoto app. This would make a great Christmas gift that would be very memorable and cost almost nothing.
