I Was Anti-Hair Extensions—Until This Celebrity Hairstylist’s Rec Adorned My FYP
For years, I firmly adhered to the “hair extensions are not for me” belief. They always looked too obvious—stiff, heavy, or like they belonged in a bad Y2K era that paparazzi shot more often than in my everyday life. As someone who was on a long journey of hair restoration after bleaching my strands to oblivion in high school and college, I was nervous about undoing all my progress. The last thing I want is to damage my natural hair or, worse, have people look at me and immediately think, “that girl is wearing extensions.”
Of course, my algorithm had other plans for me. I kept seeing Bellami Hair Extensions during my TikTok doomscrolling sessions, and I quickly fell down the rabbit hole. They have the celebrity hairstylist’s stamp of approval (we trust Jen Atkin), so of course I was interested. Her glowing review graced my FYP, and after tilting my head and rethinking my steadfast no-extensions policy, I decided to hit “add to cart” and give it a try.

Why I am against hair extensions
To be clear, I’m not anti-extension. I had a lot of reasons: I didn’t want to deal with expensive maintenance, I was afraid it would be uncomfortable, and I was worried it would look fake. Plus, considering the years I spent trying to get my hair back to health after all that bleaching damage, I wasn’t about to risk putting myself back to square one. So for a long time, extensions were a no-no for me. I admire other people’s beautiful length and volume, but I don’t think it’s worth it in my case.
What made me try Bellami hair extensions
In short? Curiosity ultimately won. After seeing quite a bit of social buzz about Bellami Hair Extensions, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to at least try clip-ins—low commitment and low risk, right? I ordered a Bellami sample swatch first (pro tip: it’s a lifesaver for color matching), testing both brown options before choosing Chocolate Chocolate (#4).
At length, I browsed product photos and model specifications on their site before deciding on the Silk Seam Clip-Ins in the 20-inch size. Each set comes with five pieces—one weft with four clips, two with three clips, and two with two clips (I didn’t know much about these until mine arrived, so consider this your inside information). My mindset at that time was: “This is just for one night.” However, these questions quickly become repetitive “why not” questions.

My honest experience using Bellami hair extensions
Applications & Mixtures
I’m not going to lie: As someone fairly new to the world of extensions, I was a little intimidated about where to start. However, after watching a quick tutorial on YouTube (and then finding a TikTok breakdown that makes it even easier), I quickly gained the confidence to do it and can honestly say that it’s really easy. Cutting it took about five minutes, then I styled my hair as usual. The first time I snapped them into place, I was surprised at how secure they were. A little teasing at the root, per Bellami’s instructions, helps the clips grip, but once in place, they don’t budge.

See & Feel
At first, I did notice the weight, but only for the first half hour (and that must have been because I had a lot of foreign objects in my hair the first time). After that, I forgot they were there. However, what really surprised me was how seamlessly it blended. When I first put the extensions in my hair, the color seemed a little warmer than my pale brown strands. But once pinned and styled, they blend with my natural hair perfectly. I don’t even know where my hair ends and the extensions begin.
Wearability
I wore it all night, and it didn’t move once. They hold curls beautifully, stay comfortable, and even provide gentle brushing without slipping. The only clue that I was wearing it was how many compliments I got on my hair, which usually isn’t the case.

Are Bellami hair extensions worth it?
For me, the answer is of course yes. The price is an investment, but considering the quality, ease of use, and how natural it looks, I think it’s all worth it. Perfect for anyone who wants a low-commitment way to add length and volume—whether you’re getting ready for a big event, experimenting with everyday style, or simply looking to boost your confidence. The advantage? They’re comfortable, blend beautifully, and can be styled over and over again with proper care. Counter? They may take a little getting used to, and figuring out clip placement may take a practice round or two. But overall, they delivered everything I hoped for and then some. I’m officially out of the “hair extensions aren’t for me” camp.
