David Bogozi: I’m a retired firefighter. I live in Locust Grove, Virginia. I worked for the city of Alexandria for 33 years. I live here with my wife and we have 10 grandchildren who we chase everywhere. I miss running calls. I miss the people at the fire department. They are like a second family,
Gregg Eure, MD: BPH, is a very common disease that we see in the field of urology. So it stands for benign prostatic hyperplasia. And that’s really just a fancy term for an enlarged prostate. So of us men, about half of us experience prostate enlargement as we age. And about half of them experience symptoms. So this is the majority of the population.
David Bogozi: I’m in pretty good shape. And then BPH, you know, got to the point where sleeping wasn’t very common, because I was waking up to go to the bathroom several times a night.
Gregg Eure, MD: As urologists treating BPH today, we really have a lot of advanced, high-tech tools to help diagnose this and we really try to personalize treatment for each case.
David Bogozi: He explained the different options he could offer me. One of them is aquablation, and there’s the laser surgery that he’s talking about. And he gave me the pros and cons of both. And I loved everything he talked about about aquablation surgery. He said it was the least invasive of the two procedures as he explained about aquablation and how effective it would be if it could be done and not affect my sex life. Well, that’s what I want to have. When can we do it?
Do You Have an Enlarged Prostate?
We offer options to relieve your symptoms.
Gregg Eure, MD: At UVA Health in Culpeper, we are very fortunate to have aquablation technology. In fact, we are the first state to have an updated version that uses artificial intelligence and more advanced imaging. So it really improves treatment.
David Bogozi: I’ve been to doctors at UVA Culpeper and UVA at Charlottesville. And the care is extraordinary. The people are wonderful, friendly, loving. Oh yes, the sleep was amazing. You know, I went from four, waking up four or five times a night to maybe two times a night. Now, if you have the opportunity to have aquablation surgery over anything else, I highly recommend aquablation surgery. The results are amazing in so many different ways. Huge improvement in my quality of life and our quality of life.
