Eye surgery that will touch your heart

When Donna brought her sister, Kelly, to live with her, she was in a bad condition. A victim of neglect and harassment by his caregivers, Kelly is malnourished, blind, and suffering from untreated diabetes and mental health diseases.

With Donna’s attention and attention, plus Kelly’s default resistance, Kelly became healthy and stable. Medicine, diet, and exercise control the condition. But one thing that Donna couldn’t improve was Kelly’s blindness. So, he found someone who could. He brought Kelly to Uva Health for cataract surgery.

Donna took a story from there.

Kelly Cataract Operation, in the words of his sister

We scheduled Kelly operations for November 12, 2024. Since we lived outside the city, Kelly and I usually live there. Today is no different. We have a special “sister” swimming day and anticipate our trip together. Kelly is not nervous at all. I, on the other hand, is an accident.

He went to the operation and, in a very short time, they told me that he was recovering and we would not know more to follow up.

Cataract Operation Brings New Hope

On November 13Th At 10:15 am, we walked to the office of Dr. Jun, Kelly with a patch in her eyes. We walked back, and when they took patches from their eyes and asked him to read the chart, my heart exploded. He can see the graphics. Imperfect, but it’s okay … he is still swollen and bruised, but he can see! When we left the hospital that day, I recorded a moment in history which will forever be a special part of our trip. We returned to the hotel and he really wanted to read and play Solitaire on his iPad.

Develop after surgery

Today, Kelly is a rock star. He developed in his environment. He likes to do the rugs, watching Little House in the grasslands, and colors (inside the line). Kelly made Dr. Jun is a unicorn sand art. Unicorn is a protective spiritual creature that carries healing energy. In my opinion, Dr. Jun is a true angel who not only helps small souls like Kelly, but the scope is wide, helping others on their journey.

Donna: There is a 5 -year difference between Kelly and I. She 1 PON, 14 ounces when she was born. When he will walk into a room, the room will turn on. He is really fun to have. So when he was 18 years old, he moved to Colorado, up to the mountains. And we just continue our lives.
They don’t know how to deal with it in Colorado. They really don’t. When he came to stay with me in January 2022, he was malnourished at the time, and he had lost his view about three years before that.
Dr. Jun: So Kelly comes with a very difficult eye condition. He was really blind in one eye: he could not walk, he could not feed himself. He really could not see anything other than the existence or absence of light. We could not see in his eyes to do full eye examination, so we had to use a special ultrasound technique to measure cataract size, to measure the size of his eyes, just to know that the dimensions even made sense for us to try a particular surgical approach. So I have to really think about various ways to approach this problem from the perspective of surgery. Actually, I spent a lot of good time designing 3 different plans, so we, I thought, was ready for every possibility.
Donna: So she performed operations on November 12. November 13, we have a follow -up. And he went to the office, and they took eyes from his eyes, and he began to read the chart.
Kelly: I never thought I could see again, but I did it.
Donna: And how does it feel?
Kelly: It feels so good that I can walk out of the office.
Donna: I left to reach his hand, because I had done this now for two years, and he had just left. And he walked in front of me and I like it, “Where are you going? Â € Like watching your child walking for the first time, you know?
Kelly: I can read, write, grow trees, like watching TV, small houses in grasslands, I like that.
Donna: You know, some people say, “Oh, the future is bright.” But for Kelly, it is true. Kelly can see. With the right tools, the right doctor, the right medicine, the right environment, people can develop. And Kelly is a miracle that runs and speaks.
