4 Books I’m Currently Reading (+ My Team’s Picks!)

I feel like I’m barely breathing after our trip to Boston and all the Halloween costume prep.

Every year, people ask how I convince our kids to wear family costumes and my answer is always our kids ride them, 100%. Honestly, Bart and I would be happy if we didn’t dress up at all, but our kids are all wearing family costumes, so here we are.

In the meantime, I’m trying to read a bit – here’s what I’m reading at the moment:

Academy by Elin Hilderbrand and Shelby Cunningingham
This was one of my books for October’s Book of the Month box and I quite liked it! Islamic boarding school books? Feels perfect for this time of year! This is a book I picked up when we had daily family reading as part of homeschooling.

The Great and Only Barnum: The Amazing and Amazing Life of Showman PT Barnum by Candace Fleming
We have listened The Greatest Showman soundtrack for years and then my girls rediscovered their love for it when our Airbnb in Vermont had a record player with this record. We watched the movie last weekend and I picked up this book to read to them so they know the real story behind the movie (I read it years ago and loved it – you can see my full review here)!

This Time Is Different by Ferdelle Capistrano
This fall romance set in New York City in a brown apartment has been getting so much attention, so I just grabbed the audio and listened to it on my morning walk. So far I’m not completely sold, but it’s interesting enough that I keep listening to it.

Nice Little Lies by Sarah Morgan
I finished my first holiday read of the season on our trip to Boston and now I’m moving on to my second. I read a series of GREAT holiday reads last year, so I’m hoping this year will be just as great! This one is about a bunch of characters returning home for Christmas, all with secrets they’re keeping.

And this is what my team is reading right now!

The Prison Healer by Lynette Noni
YA fantasy isn’t my typical genre, but that’s what book clubs are for – pushing you out of your comfort zone. All about survival, love and magic mixed in, this one is amazing! I admit, there are some slow parts, but there are great parts that make up for it and I can’t wait to read part two!

Jennifer

Soulless by Will Wight
This book is very different from my usual genre, but my husband has been trying to persuade me to start this twelve book series for over two years. Because he is now almost finished Emma M. Lion, Volume 8 after I convinced him to read it, I thought it was only natural that I return the favor and try his recommendations. Soulless follows the journey of Lindon, a boy born without a soul or a defined path to advance to higher levels of power. He must rely on his wits and wits to protect his homeland in the way only he can.

The Tenant by Freida McFadden
Freida McFadden is famous for Household servant (which I also read and loved), but this thriller proves that he has more surprises in store. It follows Blake, recently fired from his high-profile job, who rents out a room in the brownstone building he shares with his fiancee to make ends meet. Their new tenant, Whitney, seems sweet and perfect…maybe Also perfect. And of course, things are not as they seem.
