Some of my goals for 2026

Hello 2026!

2025 is a great year for me – I’m turning 40, we’ve had some really fun trips (Australia was one of the biggest highlights), and we’re at an exciting stage with our girls at the moment.

And, as always, I’m excited to welcome the new year with new goals and adventures to look forward to.

Here are some of my goals for 2026:

Some of My Goals for 2025

  1. Conduct 6 author interviews. One of the things I’d like to add to Everyday Reading is more author interviews (and that’s not a hard thing to accomplish as I’ve done about 4 in the 19 years of running Everyday Reading). I hope to do 6 this year, and many of them correlate with the books we read for the Everyday Reading Book Club in 2026.
  2. Take a ceramics class. My sister did this last year and invited me to join her this year, along with Ani (13 years old). I thought this would be a fun activity this winter and a fun time with my sister and daughter. This is definitely out of my comfort zone (I’m not traditionally artistic) so it would be great to push myself to try something new.
  3. Keep up with my (mostly) daily Flecks of Gold journal. This journal is a three-year journal with a few lines each day to record special or funny moments with your child (or just your life). I started doing it in 2024 and I love it as a way to unwind before bed and this past year it’s been really fun reading the previous year’s entries as I write for the day. (PS my Flecks of Gold code is READ EVERY DAY).
  4. Read 175 books. This was my goal in 2024 and 2025 and I was slightly off in 2024 (I was in the low 130s) and almost there in 2025 (I was in the 160s). This is my year to really get there. I know some people resist the purpose of numbers because they feel it makes them focus on quantity over quality, but for me, numbers help me focus on reading over my phone, and that’s my real goal.
  5. Strength training 3x a week. After I had my Dexa scan in November, one of my priorities was improving my bone density and everyone told me that the evidence that weighted vests could do much was slim and that progressive overload training was a much better option. I’ve been doing strength training for years, but this year I got more serious about doing it consistently and pushing myself to do heavier weights instead of being a little lazy.
  6. Watch Ken Burns’ Revolutionary War series. I’m a huge fan of Ken Burns and I’m really excited about his new series because I don’t feel like I have as good an understanding of the Revolutionary War as I’d like. This is a great goal to work towards in the winter when it’s cold and dark outside!
  7. Try Recipe Club. I’ve been following Kelsey Nixon for years and decided that 2026 would be the year I tried her Recipe Club to make dinner easier! I subscribed to meal planning years ago and loved it until it closed, so I’m excited to try something new this year!

What goals or resolutions are on your list for 2026? I want to hear it!
